A series of promotional activities are launched to kick off the event. On September 28 (Saturday) a free plant giving campaign to encourage active participation of the students in the Quiz was held in Macau, generating overwhelming responses from youngsters and the people.

"The Student Quiz is aimed at encouraging students to take a lively interest in learning and applies the knowledge they acquire. We hope that young people will develop a life-long interest in continued learning. In line with this spirit, plant giving is launched to encourage grooming of the young people, and thereby active participation in the Student Quiz," said Mr. Stanley, Chairman of Banco Delta Asia.

Following the success of last year, the Champion team of the senior category of Student Quiz will become the Student Ambassadors. They will go on an overseas trip on behalf of Macau students in a bid to increase exposure and promote exchange. The 1st year of Student Ambassadors visited Taiwan last June.

The plant distribution was held in Largo do Senado and Rotunda Carlos da Maia respectively. Aglaonema Commutatum, better known as Silver Queen, originally from tropical rain forests with over 50 different varieties in the world, together with other species of plants, are given away to passers-by. A specie of Silver Queen, is a popular indoors plant, well suited to climate of Macau.

The plant distribution was very well-received. About a thousand plants were distributed within hours.

Student Quiz is supported by Macau Chamber of Catholic Schools, Macau Chinese Educational Association, Faculty of Education, University of Macau, Macau Association of Chinese Students as well as The Macau Association for Advancement of Science and Technology. The Student Quiz, which has been held since 1990, has become an annual major event for Macau secondary schools.

The enrollment of the 13th Delta Asia Cup Student Quiz will be started on September 26, 2002. The closing date is October 11, 2002. Application forms will be available at all branches of Banco Delta Asia, Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs & Culture, DSEJ, and all the supporting organizations of the Student Quiz.

Written test is introduced this year and is scheduled for November 3, 2002. The semi-final of the Quiz will be held on December 1, 2002 with the semi-final and the finals to take place on December 8, 2002 at the Cultural Centre.
